Saint Kizito

Saint Kizito was the youngest of the Ugandan Martyrs, who were executed between 1885 and 1887 under King Mwanga II of Buganda (in present-day Uganda). Kizito was only 14 years old when he was martyred on June 3, 1886.

Born around 1872, Kizito served in the court of King Mwanga II. He converted to Catholicism and received baptism shortly before his death. Despite his youth, he showed remarkable courage when facing martyrdom. Kizito and his companions were burned alive for refusing to renounce their Christian faith and rejecting the king’s immoral demands.

Pope Benedict XV beatified Kizito along with the other Ugandan Martyrs in 1920, and Pope Paul VI canonized them on October 18, 1964. Their feast day is celebrated on June 3.
