History of the Parish
Our Lady of Assumption Embu is one of the 23 Parishes that make the Diocese of Embu. It is in the St. Joseph Allamano Deanery. It was declared a Parish on 17th January 1959, some 27 years before the Diocese became an entity. It is situated in the uplands with its head/Parish offices in Embu Town, next to Embu Level Five Hospital (formerly Embu Provincial General Hospital). The Parish has an estimated faithful population of 6,000 up from around 700 faithful in 1959. With a total of 12 Prayer Houses, the Parish Pastoral Diary is manned by Five Local Priests with the assistance of Catechists. Down at the Prayer Houses, there are Small Christian Communities (SCCs). Currently, Our Lady of Assumption Parish has many SCCs which are of much importance in both evangelization and enhancement of the social fabric within the Parish. In its endeavors to foster a Holistic Evangelization over the years, the Parish has embraced a number of projects perceived to be in tandem with the modern societal needs and human orientation in faith issues. Among these include the putting up of Fathers’ house, sisters’ convent, Our Lady of Assumption and St. Emilio Nursery and Primary Schools and Parish pastoral complex (ongoing) purely run by the Parish Management. This is a successful project tailored to meet learning needs of the immediate Community and those neighboring the Parish.
